Mark Hagerty, president and founder of Michigan Solar Solutions (MSS), first encountered Roof Tech products at a tradeshow in Minnesota in 2015. Not long after, he decided to use RT-MINI to mount the solar array on his company’s office in Riverdale, Michigan. “By using RT-MINI, we were able to install a skirt around the array to create a streamlined look,” he said. “It was so esthetically appealing people didn’t even realize we had solar installed on the roof.” Since then, MSS has used RT-MINI on more than two dozen installations for its residential customers.
Experience makes the difference when working with the Roof Tech team.
Hagerty has developed a strong relationship with key members of the Roof Tech team since they first began working together. “Mike Dunlap, Joe Perez, and Milton Nogueira have all been terrific,” he said. “They clearly know this business inside and out, and we’ve received great service from Roof Tech on every job.” MCC’s field service supervisor Karl Hercula works closely with Guy Wellman, Roof Tech’s sales manager for the Midwest Region, to ensure that every MSS project goes smoothly.
Rough winter weather makes RT-MINI ideal for installations in the Detroit area.
Michigan is renowned for its harsh winters, and Hagerty pointed out that RT-MINI is the perfect choice for jobs in and around the Detroit metro area, where the winter snow and ice load is typically less than 15 lbs. per square foot. “RT-MINI make it fast and easy to install solar arrays anywhere on the roof, and it really stands up to the winter weather,” he said.
RT-MINI: The one and only option for mounting on simulated shake shingle roofs.
Hagerty is especially enthusiastic about using RT-MINI on simulated shake shingle roofing. “Before RT-MINI, you just couldn’t install solar arrays on this type of roofing,” he said. “These shingles are textured by nature, and the RT-Butyl tape creates a permanent seal against any water intrusion. We have found that no other mounting product works for these installations.” When asked what he would say to anyone considering trying Roof Tech products for the first time, Hagerty was confident in his reply. “If you find a roof where you think Roof Tech won’t work, just try it,” he said. “You will quickly find that Roof Tech is the smartest choice.”
