Robert Young, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Standard Energy Solutions first encountered Roof Tech in 2017 at Solar Power International in Las Vegas. “Back then, we were investigating various options for inventory, but we weren’t quite ready to commit to rail-less mounting systems,” he recalled. “Soon after that show, I met with Roof Tech Sales Manager Joe Perez, and he and I continued our discussions.”

Young explained that his team first used RT-MINI to attach solar panels to the underlayment of the roof, but soon found that RT-APEX was the perfect product for them. “Before discovering Roof Tech, our inventory included 18 component parts and pieces for each attachment,” he said. “With RT-APEX, we only have eight, which saves space and saves time on the roof.” Since completing their first project with Roof Tech mounting systems, Standard Energy has done nearly 700 installations with RT-APEX, with more to come.

It’s always a learning curve to transition from railed systems to rail-less, and Young appreciates the support he’s received from Roof Tech. “Joe Perez has been fantastic,” he said. “He’s so flexible with scheduling and always available for training.” Young explained that his team built an in-house training center with a partial roof and walls to demonstrate new products. “Joe has used that to train our installers and to orient new team members,” he said. “His hands-on help has been invaluable.”

Young explained that his installers now carry “roof bags” onto the roof containing all the parts needed for each job. “When we used railed systems, there were way too many parts to carry, but now the bags are far more compact and lighter,” he said. “It enhances safety for our team, and RT-APEX makes our installs far more accurate.” Young’s customers are also very happy with the end results. “The black-on-black panels with skirting create a clean, professional appearance,” he said. “Also, we never use conduit to run wires across the roof. Instead, we route wires into the attic to create a more streamlined look.” Young added that he has trained his dealer/partners to point out the Roof Tech difference to his customers. “We always sell the competitive advantage,” he said, “and Roof Tech helps us to achieve that advantage.”

When asked what keeps him determined to use RT-APEX on all his jobs, Young counted the reasons. “First, there’s the big difference in inventory SKUs from 18 to 8,” he said. “That reduces our storage and transport costs. Second, the look on the roof is so much cleaner. And finally, the learning curve is far easier when you have a rep like Joe to pitch in with training. Bottom line? We’re incredibly pleased with the performance!”
