As general manager for ElecGreen Solutions, a new company offering solar installations in Alberta, Canada, Ben Larson turned to Ontario-based Frankensolar Americas, one of Canada’s leading solar distributors, for product recommendations. “When I spoke to my sales contact at Frankensolar in early 2022, he didn’t hesitate to recommend Roof Tech’s RT-MINI II roof bracket,” said Larson. “So, I ordered nearly 200 of them for our first job – a 23kW residential installation.”
Impressive performance from Day One.
Larson said his installation crew was immediately impressed with the performance of RT-MINI II. “The butyl sealant patches are fantastic,” he said. “Every mount fits securely to the roof, so there’s no chance of any leaks. We also appreciate that we never have to search for a rafter – we just screw each mount directly into the roof deck, which makes the job go more quickly and smoothly.” Larson added that he now plans to use RT-MINI II on every job with shingled roofs or any other kind of roofing compatible with RT-MINI II.
Meeting the people behind Roof Tech products.
After using RT-MINI II for the first time, a chance meeting at a recent tradeshow in Toronto, Canada, proved to be a lucky opportunity for Larson to make a personal connection with Roof Tech. “Our booths were directly across the aisle at the tradeshow,” he recalled, “so I struck up a conversation with Guy Wellman, regional sales manager for Roof Tech’s Canada and Midwest regions, and Traci Huggans, their marketing manager.” That day, Larson was given a free sample of the RT-REB Roof Entry Bracket with AlphaSeal™, and he plans to order that product as well. “It’s always nice to meet like-minded people who care about global warming,” he added. “They were all so nice, and it’s great to work with people who care so much about their product.”
Regional weather systems pose unique challenges.
Southern Alberta is on the eastern side of the Canadian Rockies, which makes it subject to some unique weather systems. Alberta typically gets up to 30 feet of snowfall between November and April, with temperatures as low as -40°C. But the region is also prone to Chinooks, warm, dry winds that originate from the Pacific Coast and suddenly melt all the snow mid-winter. “As a result, we have freezing snow that changes into the frigid water and then back into ice and snow again,” Larson explained. “We need to be absolutely sure every hole on the roof has an impermeable seal, and we get that assurance with the butyl of RT-MINI II.”
Roof Tech earns the loyalty of another new customer.
When asked if ElecGreen Solutions would continue using RT-MINI II on its jobs, Larson responded without hesitation. “We will stick with RT-MINI II,” he said. “Other companies have sent free samples to us, but none of them can compare to RT-MINI II. Now I can sleep at night when there’s snow on the rooftops knowing there will never be any leaks.”
