Roof Tech’s RT-MINI Proves a Worthy Match to Hurricane Ian

It didn’t take long for Peter Kaelin, Director of Operations for EMT Solar & Roofing, to become a big fan of RT-APEX, Roof Tech’s rail-less mounting system. “We first heard about Roof Tech in early 2021 from CED Greentech, our materials distributor,” he said. “Since then, we’ve completed about 1,100 installs with RT-APEX, and more are in the works.”
Ensolar owners first discovered Roof Tech’s RT-MINI in 2019. Vazquez explained that they initially used traditional flashing to install solar panels on their first two jobs, but soon things changed for the better. “Our distributor, CED Greentech, asked if I had ever tried RT-MINI,” Vazquez recalled. “We tried it on one job, and since then we’ve used RT-MINI exclusively on every installation we’ve done.”
A free product sample of RT-MINI makes a lasting impression. Comiskey first encountered Roof Tech at the Intersolar North America tradeshow in San Diego in February 2020. “It was my first major tradeshow, and I made the rounds to learn as much as possible,” he recalled. When Comiskey visited the Roof Tech booth, he was given a sample of RT-MINI.
The Roof Tech team recently traveled to The 31st Annual Energy Fair, sponsored by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA), in beautiful Custer, Wisconsin. This was the first year back for the Fair since COVID-19 derailed plans in 2020 and 2021, and the excitement in the air was palpable.
American Solar Repair (formerly NY Solar Maintenance) has a unique focus in the solar industry: rather than install new solar panels on customers’ homes, they remove existing panels on roofs that have leaks or other problems and reinstall the panels using new mounting hardware.
In 2017, Cesar Cruz, Director and Principal of Voltaic Solaire was searching for a way to install solar panels on a home where the roof had double shingles. “We knew we couldn’t use regular flashing on that project because it would entail lifting up the shingles,” he said. “We heard that CED Greentech in New Jersey was the only nearby source for Roof Tech products, so we decided to order a few.” After trying out RT-MINI, Cruz immediately realized that his installers would never again have to lift another shingle. Since then, Voltaic Solaire has used RT-MINI exclusively on more than 400 residential installations.
Nieves is so enthusiastic about the benefits of RT-MINI II he came up with a novel way to spread the word. “I wanted my customers to see the product up close for themselves, not just view an iPad demo,” he said. “So, I built a tiny house using plexiglass and mounted RT-MINI II on the roof.” The model home measures just 7 by 16 feet, and Nieves and his team load it onto a trailer and drive it around to show potential customers.
